Civil Ceremonies

You can enhance your ceremony with music at the following places:

Pre-ceremony (as your guests arrive)
The Bride’s Entrance Procession
The Signing of the Registers
The Couple’s Exit

A favourite piece of music can also be added at a suitable point for quiet reflection – or instead of a reading.

At most venues, we would play for 15 or 20 minutes prior to the ceremony, as your guests assemble in the ceremony room, but are very willing to play for longer, especially if you have guests travelling a long distance who maybe need a small reception of their own.

Light classical music is the norm at this point – you can leave the choice to us or choose from our extensive and ever growing repertoire list.

The Bride’s Entrance, Signing of the Registers and the final procession can be accompanied by a number of pieces – both traditional and contemporary. We are happy to commission special arrangements for you. Most pieces will work for string quartet – but we appreciate having as much notice as possible.

Please bear in mind that there are quite strict rules governing what music can and cannot be performed during a civil ceremony. Just to complicate matters, individual registrars interpret the guidelines differently, so it is essential to check your choices as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Religious Ceremonies

String quartet music is most effective throughout religious ceremonies, from the pre-ceremony gathering of the congregation to the final exit of the happy couple.

As your guests gather, soft classical music creates a good atmosphere. The Bride’s Procession, either to the traditional “Bridal Chorus” or an alternative piece from our repertoire list will be most memorable.

Whilst the registers are being signed, we are happy to perform music of your choice or to accompany a solo singer or choir in a special song or anthem. (Please bear in mind that additional rehearsals may be necessary for this.)

There is also a wealth of Recessional music available, but you could request the services of a solo trumpeter (accompanied by the quartet) for that finishing touch!

Naturally your choice of music should reflect the religious nature of the service – and clergy always have overall control of what is allowable in their church. As this can vary, it is advisable to check your choices as far in advance as possible.

Receptions

Each wedding reception is different and we pride ourselves on being flexible enough to mould our service to your requirements.

Typically, a drinks reception lasting between 60 and 90 minutes during which photographs are taken is the starting point of your afternoon. We would usually play background music from a variety of musical styles and genres to entertain your family and guests. Most questions will be answered on our FAQ page, but feel free to contact us if you need any clarification.

The formal Wedding Breakfast usually lasts around 2 hours, and we can play for all or part of the time, usually stopping just before speeches begin.

At some weddings, especially in venues where amplified music and dancing are not allowed, we are asked to provide after dinner music. This is no problem, as our extensive repertoire list enables us to provide varied music for a number of hours.

It is possible in larger venues to expand the quartet to chamber orchestra size, producing a sumptuous string tone for your entertainment. Contact us to discuss the options further.
